Q1) Where are we starting in the continuity?
Clark Kent has finished college and is the top reporter at the Smallville Post. He has been wondering what he is going to do with the powers he has been given.
At this point in the story, he is looking for a job in a big city but doesn't know where he's going to go yet.
All of his powers have been developed by this point in the story.
Lois is a reporter who's at the Daily Planet and has been for about a year now, having done an internship there a couple years later, her dedication and hard work earned her a privileged chance to start right at the Planet.
Q2) Did Clark ever become "Superboy"?
A) No. Nor did "Smallville" happen in this continuity. There a little references, and you may recognize some of these adventures as being referenced from the various incarnations of Superboy/teen Clark- but this follows its own story.
Q3) Does this take place in the DCU?
A) No. This does not take place in alternate universe in the DCU. In the "Adventures Universe", none of the other continuities ever existed. THERE IS NO EARTH-2 or infinite parellel dimensions.
Q4) What about the rest of the Adventures Universe? Is Superman the first hero?
A) Yes. World War II had some heroes known as the "Justice Society", but they were simply war heroes, not superheroes. The "Justice Society" consisted of some very familiar names, though...
Q5) Has Clark met Lex Luthor yet?
A) No- Lex is about 12 years older then Clark is this story. They have not met yet, though Lionel Luthor was responsible for a factory and development in Smallville, which caused a lot of problems in Smallville.
Jonathan met Lionel but refused to sell him his land.
However, Lionel and Lex always lived in Metropolis.
Q6) How many issues are planned?
ONE. This is the "pilot" issue that would be like a "movie adaptation" of how we would do a Superman story. It will be giant-sized, which means over 22 pages. More details on the size soon!
Q7) Any chance of Batman Adventures?
Let's work on Superman Adventures FIRST before we make any more plans.
Q8) Any chances of a second issue, or this as an ongoing series?
unfortunately, we don't have the money or time to commit to an ongoing series. I won't make any guarantees that we can't keep.
Q9) When's this story coming out?
I have it planned for February 2008. I know that's a long time away, but WE WILL NOT BE LATE!!!!!! hence, why the long-distance date. However, it is possible we will get done earlier. We'll keep you updated.
Clark Kent- (rough ideas)
WHO'S WHO #1: SUPERMAN
REAL NAME: Clark Kent;
Kryptonian name: Kal-El
Birth: February 29, 1988
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 215 lbs.
Eyes: Blue
Hair: Black
First Appearance:
The New Adventures of Superman #1 (June 2008)
Known to only a few, Superman lives a double life as Clark Kent.
Known relatives: Martha Kent (Ma Kent), Jonathan Kent (Pa Kent)
Close friends: Pete Ross, Lana Lang, Chloe Sullivan, Lori Lemaris, TJ White
Q) What are your influences?
A) My influences are the first year's worth of Superman stories way back in 1938 by Jerry Siegel & Joe Shuster, the 1940's Superman cartoons, the '50's George Reeves series, the first two Superman movies, including Superman II: Donner Cut, the "Byrne-era" Superman of the 80's/the 90's Superman comics.
I am heavily influenced by "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman" as well.
Other influences include: "Superman: The animated series" (the 90's series); and "Superman Returns". I am only influenced by the original concepts of the first season of "Smallville"- you'll see little influences from "Smallville" make it to this story.
I also am not as influenced by the Silver Age and 1970's Superman stories.
Q) Does the multi-verse exist in this universe?
A) Let me make it clear and say THE MULTIVERSE DOES NOT EXIST IN OUR STORY.
This story exists OUTSIDE the multiverse of the DCU- meaning, in the DCU, this isn't an parellel universe within the DCU.
This is the "Adventures" Universe.
Part of the problem of the DCU is the confusing continuity- this is an attempt at resoloving those issues.
Q) Is this "Ultimate Superman"?
A) NO! Ultimate Spider-man is great, but it has a lot of creative ideas we won't be using. Our stories will be more self-contained. As well, our characters will be more classic.
If you want an example, think of the Superman: Animated Series- updated for the 90's, but retaining the classic essence of Superman.
Q) How is your continuity different?
First of all, it is so hard that issue #1 takes place in June 2008, and that the next issue also takes place in the summer? We're going 'real-time' in our stories- but it's not reflective of the cover date. By 'real time' I mean that issue #1 would be in June, issue #2-#4 might be the days following, #5 would be the 4th of July weekend, #6- #9 in July, #10 in August, and so on and so on.
So our characters WILL AGE- slowly.
It will occur slower than real-time, but it allows us to move the story forward, rather than to keep the characters in a static time.
Also, since the story takes place in 2008, the stories following that will be a reflection of that as well.
Remember, though, this is fiction. We're not looking to parallel every event that happens in real life. The war in Iraq wouldn't be addressed necessarily, for example.
