CLASSIFIED ADVENTURES #1

Project 1938

TO: Amanda Walker, Checkmate Special Investigations

FROM: DR. Emil Hamilton

Upon announcement of your new title as part of Checkmate, the secret service/defense organization of the US, and the rights given to you by the Secretary of Defense, here is the following is the information you requested on "Project 1938."

The following facts are known:

* In 1938 a distant red sun, some 28- galaxies removed from our solar system exploded, destroying most of the planets in that galaxy.

* A spaceship, which appears to have been from this sector of the galaxy, and traveling faster then light speed, crash-landed near Cleveland, Ohio on February 29, 1988.

* The ship appeared to be damaged beyond repair. It also appeared to have been missing several parts. In examining the ship, it appears that two major sections of the ship are missing. The first section is believed to possibly have been an escape pod, which could have carried about 3-4 individuals. The other appears to be the main central processing unit of the ship.

The theory amongst the scientific community at STAR Labs is that the ship was damaged beyond repair when it entered the Earth's atmosphere. Either someone or the ship's computer set emergency measures which launched the rocket somewhere else on Earth. The escape pod has not been located. Searches for the central processing computer have also shown up nothing.

The ship was the size of a small jetplane that could about 50-100 people. There appears to be enough room in the ship that whoever was in their could have lived comfortably for many years.

The ship was found in several pieces in a field outside Cleveland. We found one section of the ship that we have determined would have been their kitchen. We found several food items that were of an extraterrestial origin. Bizzarely, we also found some food that was very similar to what we would eat- there was packages of a frozen meat not unlike our own steak, but leaner and healthier. The kitchen also had non-repairable mechanisms that most likely were used for freezing or cooking food- thousands of years more advanced then anything we could dream about, in my opinion.

Their is much to suggest the extraterrestials were humaniod in nature- the control panels of the ships, the idea of a bedroom, with sheets of a more comfortable and elegant nature than any seen on earth. Unfortunately, little remained of what would be the bedroom. The sheets were bright colours- red and blue.

There was a medical cabinet full of drugs and medications beyond anything we have ever seen. Unfortunately, most of these drugs have been damaged by the ship's crash landing. Noted scientist Lex Luthor has taken painful hours to examine the ship and these drugs with me. His research has been astounding, to say the least.

The technological aspects of the ships were beyond all amazement. The ship appears to have weapons beyond anything we ever have dreamt of. Unfortunately, most of these weapons were found in pieces or beyond repair. However, Dr. John Henry Irons managed to adapt one of these weapons into a weapon prototype that could provide helpful in the battle of terrorism and war overseas. Lex Luthor has also been experimenting with weapon research as well.

It appears that this ship was not meant to be somewhere for these extraterrestials to inhabit. All evidence points that the this was merely an "ark" of some sort to carry them from their distant planet to this one. The central processing unit and the rocket were meant to be their means of survival on this planet.

There also were several small robots that were smashed beyond repair. It appears that whatever energy source has powered them has been depleted.

There are no photos or anything to indicate what these creatures may have looked like- save some clothes, which suggested to us a very human-like appearance. These alternated with colors such as black and green, red and black and other colours.

Some leftover artifacts taken from the ship look to be like things that would have been heirlooms of the travellers.

There also was a tattered cape, red and blazing in colour, with a large symbol that looked like the letter "S" on it.

We have no proof that these aliens survived the crash landing on earth, or where they would be.

I will send you all my classified material on this matter, as well as the information to reach you.

Director: STAR Labs, Metropolis

DAILY PLANET ADVENTURES #1

RAPIST STILL AT LARGE by Lois Lane

Hob's Bay- I am writing in the hopes that someone will read this and recognize that there still is the need for heroes.

Last night, a serialized rapist stalked and killed a young, seventeen-year old near Hob's Bay, also known by the locals as "Sucide Slum." The girl was walking past Eddie's Place, a well-known dance club in that district. There are reports that the unindentified girl made a 911 call to Metropolis police, and reported being stalked by a man who was hiding in the shadows.

The dispatcher, Erin Haiduk, reported that "The last thing I heard was the young girl screaming on the phone, 'He's right behind me!' The only thing I heard after was the distant sound of a woman yelling and a man yelling after her.'"

No information has been at press time as to the identity of the young girl. This marks the 7th rape victim in the Hob's Bay area, and the 3rd that resulted in a death. This has been in the last five weeks alone.

What is disturbing to note is that there are reports that several people witnessed the girl being chased by the man but did nothing. Police who interviewed the people found that none of them bothered to look and see what was happening and were preoccupied with getting into the club.

We must ask ourselves: are we too preoccupied to see what is going on? This city is in need of a hero, or rather heroes- people who will unselfishly act in a time of need.

I do not point the finger at anyone. I only ask if it there was a way this tragedy could have been prevented, simply by paying attention, by looking to see what was going on.

If anyone has any information on this case, please call Metropolis Police and let them know.

The fact remains that this man is still a fugitive, still on the loose. Metropolis' finest, including Inspector Henderson, told the press today: "We are looking at doing what we can to find this man. We are organizing a team under the direction of Dan Turpin to investigate into this matter."

The Metropolis police represent some of the finest men and women in this Country. They have been the true heroes of this city. We wish them the best in their search for this madman. Heroes like Inspector Henderson and Dan Turpin inspire us- hopefully, so that one day, we too will look ourselves at realize that there is more than just us- there is a whole world out there looking for heroes.

SMALLVILLE ADVENTURES #1

"PETE ROSS: SMALLVILLE MAN OF THE YEAR"
by TJ White

Pete Ross, who is currently studying Political Science at Central Kansas University, was awarded with a "Citizen of the Year" award yesterday by Mayor Gerald Haymes Newton.
"It's wonderful to see a young man so devoted to the welfare of the community," Mayor Newton told the Post. Pete Ross was awarded for his outstanding efforts in organizing a campaign which helped rebuild homes that were damaged by tornadoes last Spring. In addition to countless hours volunteering on his own time rebuilding homes, he also brought the community together in on the project. He also spent helped organized a rock concert for the town that attracted the likes of such big name artists as Remy Zemo, who played their hit song "Somebody Save Me" at the concert this past summer.

In accepting the award, Pete Ross acknowledged the help of the Smallville Post's financial support, as well as the help of its staff- particularily Clark Kent, myself, Chloe Sullivan and Andy McCallister. In his own words, he said, "I would like to take this time to thank everyone for their tireless participation in this endeavour. I would like to thank the Kents for the enomourous amount of help that they put into this project. Mayor Gerald Haymes Newton, I acknowledge you as being a true hero and model for me as a young aspiring politician- someone who could look at a disaster as a way of bringing people together."

He then took the time to make a public announcement to the town concerning his relationship to long-time girlfriend, Lana Lang. "I would also like to take this time to announce my engagement to my long-time, girlfriend, Lana Lang." He then brough Lana on stage and gave her the award. "I share this award with you."

It was a touching end to a story that began with bitter destruction some months ago. Some might remember that many people were myseteriously rescued by a 'superboy' who originally was thought by some to be an angel. Pete Ross joked, "I am this mysterious 'Superboy.' But perhaps, with Lana at my side, she can make me into a Superman."

An awards dinner at the Smallville Country Club followed.
